At Capshaw Baptist Church we like to have the Baptism Candidate share a little profession of faith with the congregation before their baptism. We actually video tape this in advance so there is no pressure on the candidate.
We would like to have the candidate answer four questions in the video. These questions are:
1. How did you first get connected with Capshaw?
2. How did you come to know Christ? In other words, what ministries at Capshaw helped?
3. What was said that caused you to start considering your salvation?
4. What is the gospel in your life?
The point of the video is to profess your faith in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior before the entire congregation.
We aren’t looking for a long speech. The maximum length of your video will be 3 minutes. You are encouraged, however, to make your answers as straight-forward as possible. If it is easier for you to answer two of them in one response, please do so. You don’t have use the full 3 minutes; most children's videos have been around 45 seconds total.
Why do we ask these questions? We want you to include how you got connected with Capshaw since this information might help visitors who are seeing the video to understand that Capshaw is here to make disciples for Jesus Christ. We know that identifying what ministries helped you come to know Christ makes it clear to visitors what ministries we have at Capshaw that could help them learn about Christ. It also encourages the people involved in that ministry to keep doing what they're doing.
You will need to restate the question in your answer. For example, the first question of how did you first get connected with Capshaw could be answered as My family moved to Huntsville from Louisiana 4 years ago and John Doe invited us to attend Capshaw or I started coming to Capshaw with my family about 2 years ago. Feel free to include any names of people that encouraged you to come to Capshaw.
The final question is the most important of the four. Just briefly state the gospel in your life. You need to address how you believe Jesus died for your sins and how He rose again so that you may have eternal life, and that now you are following Him. Use whatever wording you want to convey this, but try to stay away from certain sayings such as I asked him into my heart or I prayed a prayer since these are Christian buzz-words that a visitor may not understand.
Here are a few examples of what we mean:
Example #1: I realized that I was a sinner and that I was eternally separated from God. I wanted to fix that but I understood that there was nothing I could do about it. It is only because of Jesus Christ dying on the cross for my sins and being raised from the dead that I am forgiven before God and can live eternally with Him. Now I have fellowship with God through His son Jesus Christ being the Lord of my life.
Example #2: I realized I was guilty of sin. I believe that Jesus died on the cross as payment for my sins and that He rose again on the third day so that I can live eternally with Him. Now Jesus Christ is the Lord of my life.
